Tommy Hjort

Tommy has a MScEE from Chalmers Institute of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden. He worked for ASEA/ABB for 14 years (except for one year in medium switchgear) in the HVDC segment mainly in project and detailed engineering, systems studies, marketing, field installation supervision, commissioning, project management and liaison engineering at consulting and end client companies. The services were performed during lengthy stays on projects in Norway, USA, DR of Congo, Brazil and Canada in addition to some years at the HVDC base in Ludvika, Sweden.

For 21 years he held positions as project manager, production manager and planning manager at the local utility in Ludvika, Sweden in the fields of power grid (≤ 145 kV), district heating and hydro power. Among the services performed are feasibility studies, technical specifications, project and detailed engineering, purchasing, project management for power cable runs and substations, district heating production plants and distribution grids and hydropower stations, dams and monitoring systems. The successful major refurbishments of Ludvika and Lernbo hydropower station may serve as good examples of his skills.

Since early 2008 he is an independent consultant. The services include a feasibility study for a small combined heat and power, CHP, plant, a feasibility study for a small windpower installation, project management for a number of small cable projects, and key supply manager for ABB pertaining to purchase of main circuit equipment for large HVDC projects.
